History of the Flip
The Flip cocktail originated in the 1600s in England as a heated mix of ale, rum, and molasses, stirred with a red-hot poker to create froth, or “flip.” Popular in Colonial America, the drink evolved in taverns, where eggs and cream were added to mask poor-quality alcohol or simply as a brilliant enhancement. This addition gave flips their signature silky texture and rich, creamy mouthfeel, making them a timeless favourite.
