Ingredients

Instructions

Build the Base: Add everything to a large mixing glass filled with ice:

  1. Bring the Chill: Gently stir using a cocktail spoon until icy cold.
  2. Strain: Strain while pouring into a pre-chilled glass filled with a large square ice cube.
  3. Final Touch: Garnish with a thin piece of orange peel, twisting it over the rim of the glass first to release those zest oils.

History of the Negroni

The Negroni is believed to have been created in 1919 at Caffè Casoni in Florence, when Count Camillo Negroni asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to make his Americano cocktail stronger by replacing soda water with gin and adding an orange garnish. The drink, made with equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari, quickly became popular and was named after the Count. However, some credit General Pascal Olivier Comte de Negroni with inventing a similar cocktail in 1857, while others point to the Boulevardier, created two years earlier, as a possible influence. The true origin remains a mystery.
