History of the Negroni
The Negroni is believed to have been created in 1919 at Caffè Casoni in Florence, when Count Camillo Negroni asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to make his Americano cocktail stronger by replacing soda water with gin and adding an orange garnish. The drink, made with equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari, quickly became popular and was named after the Count. However, some credit General Pascal Olivier Comte de Negroni with inventing a similar cocktail in 1857, while others point to the Boulevardier, created two years earlier, as a possible influence. The true origin remains a mystery.
